The 16th Congressional
District of Illinois currently runs along the northern border of Illinois and
includes Boone, Winnebago, Stephenson, JoDaviess,
Ogle, and Carroll Counties, as well as the northern parts of DeKalb and Whiteside
Counties. McHenry County, with the exception of the northeastern corner,
continues to be in the district, as well.
Rockford,
the district's largest city and third largest city in the state, has over 950 factories
calling it home with 850 of them employing 100 or fewer people. Per capita, Rockford is
one of the most densely populated manufacturing communities in the United States. Rockford
is the largest producer of fasteners in the world. It is considered the world's tool and
die capital, as well.
The 16th District is also home to the two
fastest growing counties in Illinois -- McHenry (fastest) and Boone (second fastest).
Stephenson County is the state's leading dairy producing county and Jo Daviess is the
state's leading hay producing county. Jo Daviess County is also home to the City of
Galena, one of the state's leading tourism locations. Finally, Ogle County is home to some
of the Midwest's most beautiful forest preserves and scenic spots along the Rock River.
Ogle County is also home to the Byron Nuclear Power Plant.
The 16th Congressional District is one of the
heaviest exporting districts in the United States. This quiet northern Illinois district
is responsible for between one-third and one-half of the state's manufactured exports and
is a leader in agricultural and processed food exports. |
